Restoring Reliability: Air End Seal Repair

Restoring Reliability: Air End Seal Repair Case Study

Industry: Mining

The Challenge

A gold mining operation located at Davyhurst, experienced a failure of the front oil seal on the main air end shaft of a Sullair screw compressor. This seal failure posed a risk to compressor reliability and oil containment. Given the critical role compressed air plays in mining operations, a timely and technically precise repair was required to restore the system to safe operating condition.

The Solution

Our team carried out a targeted oil seal repair on the compressor air end. This process required separating the air end from the electric motor and carefully removing the metal coupling fitted to the air end shaft. Once access was achieved, the damaged front oil seal was replaced. The repair was completed with attention to alignment and reassembly to ensure the compressor returned to service without introducing additional wear or vibration issues.

Results

The compressor was successfully restored to full operational condition, with oil containment integrity reinstated and no further leakage observed. The repair extended the service life of the air end and avoided the need for replacement. The mining company was able to resume normal operations with confidence in the reliability of their compressed air system.
